Babies height???? UPDATE****

I’m very annoyed with my mil, she’s very picky about anything I do especially when it involves my son. My son is 11 months old and he’s not walking yet.....my mil said all her kids walked at 9 months old and that I’m being lazy and not having him walk around the house???? I’m so confused about that and it just made me sad she said he’s behind. Now she’s saying that he’s very short for his age because all of her kids were tall. My son is 11 months old and he’s about 29.5 inches tall, I don’t find him to be short but everything she tells me just doesn’t make me feel good. Now I’m just worried anxious about everything. I keep thinking that maybe he is short or that I’m just doing everything wrong. She won’t stop bringing it up every time she seems him

If your son’s doctor isn’t concerned then your mil shouldn’t be nagging about anything to you.  First of all, it isn’t common for babies to start walking at 9 months.  Furthermore, most orthopedist and orthopedic surgeons will say that it is better when a baby starts walking later(suggested to be 15-16 months old) otherwise x legs or bull-legs develop.  Not always, but it is more common in babies that start earlier.  Second of all, how does she propose you alter his height?  She is an over-opinionated, under-educated woman that really should learn manners.  I’m sorry you have to deal with someone like that.

Every baby move when they’re ready to move just because her children walked by a certain age that doesn’t mean yours will. I have 4 children and they all moved at a different pace. When he’s ready to walk he will and I don’t think he’s short for his age my 2 year old is short I just believe he takes after my husband side of the family my 8 year old is tall I always hear she’s tall for her age keep doing what you’re doing as long as his doctor doesn’t have any concerns I wouldn’t listen to her.

My daughter didn't walk until she was 14 months! And I tried sooo hard to encourage her to walk. People like to be judgemental about mothers and their children..  seems like especially our MIL's 🥴

I would let her know babies have receptive language starting at 6 months & if she can’t start talking more positively about her grand child you’ll have no choice to limit/stop their interactions because you don’t want him to have negativity like that in his life.
I think that height would put him around the 50th percentile, so definitely not short (plus wtf it’s not like you can control that?!?) & 11 months is NOT behind for walking 9-15 months is considered “typical”.

Your mil is wrong. 9 months is exceptionally early for babies to walk. Also how long ago was she the mother of a baby? 20-30 years ago? She doesn’t remember correctly.

The next time she says something obtuse, just say his pediatrician isn’t concerned and she shouldn’t be either. I walked at 9 months, but my son is now 12 months and just starting to stand on his own. Every kid is different. If I were in your shoes, I would be asking my husband to intervene and let her know she’s being disrespectful.
