Anxiety medication and TTC

Jasmine • 👶🏽 Mommy of 1 🌹

I suffer from anxiety for about 2 years now, this year has been the worst for me. Quarantine just adds onto it all. Thursday i have an appointment to talk to my new primary dr about seeing a psychiatrist or starting a dosage of anxiety meds. But I’ve read and researched that being on medication and TTC aren’t good. Also read some cause premature babies, under developed babies.

Has anyone been on anxiety meds while pregnant? Did you try other ways to cope?

I would definitely add that into your conversation about questions . I think plenty of woman take it while pregnant because of depression that some woman experience.

I definitely will. I have a list of questions. I feel defeated for asking for medication in general I’ve always been strong and now I’m just worse.

I took Zoloft the whole ttc process. Doctor actually told me to not stop taking it but I got so extremely sick my first trimester that I couldn’t hold it down anyways. Definitely speak to your doctor about what’s best for you

While I was TTC I was on my medication for anxiety and depression. However, when I found out I was pregnant my doctor recommended me to be off them because of the type I was on. She gave me the option to be on safer medicine but I decided not to be on any. I’m doing great and my baby is too. I’m currently 20 weeks. There are many medications you can be on while pregnant. I just decided not to be on any.

I just want to say, I've been dealing with anxiety and panic disorder since I was 7. Im 34. Ive been on and off meds my whole life abd honestly they've been a lifesaver for me. My panic disorder is so bad we found it hard ttc without my mrds. Jusy talk to yoir doctor about it all. Your mental health affects your physical well being as well. Im 25+2 today, and this is my 5th child. Only my first was I not on an anti-anxiety medication. Please message me if you have any questions.

I’ve discussed this as part of my preconception appointment with my doctor and psychiatrists. If you’re in Australia there’s a centre called Mothersafe that you can call about medications. I found that both of my medications are fine to be taken during pregnancy. I was told that as you get bigger during pregnancy it’s like tapering off medication anyway. The one thing that I keep being told is that the health of the mother is the most important thing during pregnancy. If going off long term medications is going to be unsafe for mum it’s probably going to put baby in a stressful environment too. Discuss things with your doctor and then when you see your psychiatrist mention that you’re ttc. They can then arrange something that is proven safe or unlikely to cause harm. All the best x
