Which infant car seat?

Kerri

I’m pregnant with baby #2 and trying to decide what to get. I used a Safety 1st infant seat for my daughter, but I’m trading it in to Target today. It was just okay (cheap but comfortable), but it isn’t compatible with the City Select stroller we have now.

Here’s my pros/cons for each contender:

Chicco Fit2- this can allegedly be used for 2 years which means my older daughter can stay in her convertible car seats until around age 4 and then we’ll buy her forward facing seats instead of having to replace 3 convertible car seats (for my car, husband’s, and in-laws’). Also Chicco is known for being easy to install and for high safety ratings. My hold up is that it’s heavy (11 lbs) and Chicco uses some questionable flame retardants.

Maxi Cosi Mico/Max 30- this looks really comfy, lightweight, and is similar to the Safety 1st we had, but nicer. The issue is I don’t think it’ll fit in my car without pushing the passages seat far up.

Britax b-safe- we have Britax convertibles and overall like the brand; however, there are a lot of reviews about the seat being narrow/deep. My friend had it and loved it, but her baby hated it. Also according to BabyGearLab, it was the worst performing car seat they tested (barely passed the legal threshold), which is surprising for Britax.

Cybex Aton M (without sensor)- great safety ratings, sleek, comfortable. Some reviews complained that the base couldn’t be tightened enough.

I’m open to other recommendations so long as it’s compatible with the City Select and not too expensive (E.g. Nuna, Peg Perego, Clek, Uppababy are out of my price range).
