personally, as someone who has one of the most common names ever in the US, i refuse to use names that break the top 100 popularity chart. however not everyone feels this way! i love the name charlotte and that she could by Char or Lottie. i think you should keep your eyes out for another name that you both love but go with charlotte if you can’t find one
