My ex left me...

It wasn’t a long relationship, we were together for 8 months. A couple months ago he checked himself into rehab for alcoholism and has been out for 2 months.

He broke up with me using the excuse that he’s just not the same person he was before and he’s learning how to live his life again and isn’t emotionally available. I don’t drink, so it’s not that. I just don’t know what changed.

Is this a common thing when people become sober? I’ve been there for him since the beginning, going to family therapy sessions like he asked, helped him clean out his house, stayed with him when he didn’t want to be home alone in fear he’d relapse.

I just hate that you can give and give to some people and truly care for them and they just throw it back in your face. I’m just completely heartbroken and blind sided.
