Do I have to wash my baby’s clothes before he wears them?

This is my first baby and there’s been people in my family who have washed all the baby clothes before the baby gets here and some who haven’t? Is it necessary or not really?

You don't have to wash them all before he gets here, but definitely before he wears them. I used to work retail, and I promise you that even expensive and brand new clothes encounter a lot of nastiness before getting to your house. Even the 3rd world factories they're made in are often nasty and full of pests/pesticides and unsanitary people handling them, full of sprays etc. We'd get clothes from the factory with bugs, mucus, blood etc. As a practical matter, I liked to wash and dry everything in advance because a lot of stuff shrinks, and this way you'll know what size it'll really end up being vs you wash it and now it's too small for baby to wear.

Yes! Most clothes are made in countries with different standards. The clothes are shipped in dirty containers and kept in dirty warehouses and especially in the time of Covid. You don’t know how many people touched, handled, returned the clothes before you bought them. I wash everything before wearing it.

You should wash them mostly because you don't know where they've been before they got to you. Plus it would probably be refreshing to have that baby laundry smell not the smell of the store. Especially on covet times, I would make sure to wash and sanitize any items for your baby before you use them :)

Omg definitely wash them!! I honestly don't know how some ppl can just not wash them? This literally gives me anxiety. So many chemicals, pesticides, preservatives, colour redidue etc in there. Plus you don't know where they were made, who touched/handled them, how they were stored etc. Definitely wash them!! That goes for adult clothes too btw. Any dermatologist will tell you as much. Our skin is like a sponge, it will absorb whatever is in there, especially when you sweat.

Not really but with flu season and Covid numbers picking up i would. I honestly washed all of my babies clothes but it's up to you

You would want to wash them as a safeguard. Factories are VERY dirty and exhaust chemicals during production. You wouldn't want those harsh chemicals on your precious new baby's delicate skin. I also wash hand me downs even if the person giving them to me states that they washed them only because we may not have used the same detergent, their washing machine could have been dirty, the dryer could have had a lot of lent, etc. When it comes to baby, you should rather be safe than sorry

i have 3 kids 12-2 years and i have never washed new clothes.. after i was new clothes they never look new so i always wanted it to looks nice in color and new.. none of my kids have ever gotten sick or a rash or anything but that’s my experience .. all babies are different some have reactions to things and some don’t ...

I try and wash all the new clothes but there have been times when we were out and I needed to replace an outfit or something due to a blow out diaper. I obviously couldn't wash them before wearing. But the reason I would wash them is you don't know who tried them on or returned them. You also don't know where they came from or where they were stored before the shipment arrived at the store where you bought it
