I know some of us past our due dates. I wanted to share my current situation right now. This is the first time I'm making a post like this , but if anyone can benefit from it , learn from it then it's worth being a bit vulnerable with ya'll. I'm 24 years old and currently expecting my first child. Emotionally and mentally my pregnancy was very hard, but physically the pregnancy has been very healthy. The baby and I are in good health. Knowing and understand the way african American woman and babies are treated in the our health care system led me to hire a doula, for emotional, mental support thoughout my pregnancy. I got to learn so much about my body and pregnancy, I feel like everyone should get a doula, especially first time moms. Today I'm 41 weeks. I'm scheduled to be induced tonight at 8pm but I decided that I will not let that happen. Call me naive, call me a dreamer, call me crazy, call me whatever you want. But if there is nothing wrong with your baby, or you, and no ones health is at risk... do not get induced.... your body knows what it's doing, the baby will come when it's time. I'm planning to have a natural birth. Always had a bad experience with hospital and pain killers don't really work with my body. After doing extensive research on epidural and pitocin the risk for me are greater that the services it temporarily provides for my body. My body , your body, our bodies are capable to bringing life, many woman have done it before us, and will continue to do it. If you want to pain medication there's nothing wrong with that. I respect you, i love you and I support you, but please know you are a champion no matter what. I hate that sometimes doctors make decisions for our bodies. I hate the idea of forcing your body to do something it's clearly not ready for. SOME women need help with getting labor started, not all. I hate that they want to use a method, a system, a process for everyone who passes the ESTIMATED DUE DATE. For first time mom's it's normal to go past you estimated due date. Not everyone's period irregular, and not everyone ovulate on day 14 all of these has an affect ok how baby will stay in the womb. Not everyone has a 28 day cycle. We are not all the same, so why induce us according to you calculations or time, if baby is still thriving I'm the womb at 40, 41, 42 weeks. If anyone is interested in an update let me know.
