Baby number 2! 4 hour labor and delivery
Baby number 2 is here!!! Needed to write my birth story while it’s still fresh 😊
I went to my 39 week check up yesterday and my blood pressure was slightly elevated. I developed hypertension and kidney issues after having my first babe (which have since been resolved) but bc of this I was considered high risk. My doctor thought it would be a good idea to induce to keep my BP in check. So just like that we were scheduled to be induced the next morning at 730! The week prior we had been given the option for elective induction after 39 weeks. And while it was soooooo tempting I really was trying to wait for him to come naturally. So when the doctor advised me to be induced for medical purposes I have to admit I was pretty pumped. Time has been dragging by and I was so ready to meet my little boy!
So fast forward to 845am we started pitocin. Wasn’t feeling any contractions so she upped the dose a few times and then they broke my water. Contractions started to pick up, feeling like intense period cramps. I bounced on the ball for awhile which helped. By 1045 or so they were becoming really intense and I was dilated to a 5. My nurse gave me some fentanyl while I got some fluids in preparation for the epidural. The fentanyl takes the edge off for a bit but It definitely started to wear off and I experienced the most intense contractions while getting the epidural. If you’re a first time momma just BREEEEATHE through those babies it seems like it’s the only thing that really helps. Once the epidural kicked in I felt pretty good! I could tell I wasn’t completely numb like I was when I had my daughter but I wasn’t feeling the pain of the contractions. Thennnn she put the catheter in...yepppp definitely not numb 😂 we tried to do some different things to make it more effective but they weren’t really working. Again, I wasn’t feeling the pain of the contractions but I was feeling a lot of pressure and my actual vagina was not numb.
By now it’s like 1145am and I am feeling some intense pressure in my butt with each contraction to the point where I keep asking my husband to check to see if he could see his head lol. Also had my bloody show at this point. The nurse checked me and I was ready to go!!! We got the doctor in there and I pushed for probably 20 minutes or so. Vagina was still not numb 😩 definitely felt waaaay more than I wanted to and lots of inappropriate language was used in the process 😆. But once it was over I felt absolutely no pain and recovery so far has been a breeze! Mind you I had this baby 4 hours ago so I may not be feeling this same way tomorrow lol.
This seriously may be the most uneventful birth ever so sorry to disappoint 😂 good luck to all the mommas who will be delivering soon! Hope you have as easy and wonderful experience as I did!
