Hi, I’m in the Uk.

So I developed gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy that was controlled through diet and in the end some pills (I can’t remember the name now)

My little one is now 22 months old and Iv had absolutely zero follow up for diabetes checks since they did a blood prick test in hospital after birth.

Iv just told the nurse during my regular b12 injection that I’m pregnant again unexpectedly and it’s followed up with she will let my gp know.

I get a call 2 days later off the reception asking me to go in for a blood test dr request I ask why she said because you had gestational diabetes in last pregnancy and it should be monitored yearly... I said sure and booked the appointment..

It’s only now after the fact Iv gotten myself rather angry that not one single heath professional has followed up about my gestational diabetes at all! Hell its been 22 months! Iv just looked it up and it says you should have a blood test within 6-13 weeks after birth to check! Then a yearly one every year if that’s normal.

If I hadn’t of told them I was pregnant again I wouldn’t of been give a blood test at all I know that!

Do I have a right to be so angry!!!?? I could have type 2 diabetes and not even know it for the past 22 months!

How and who do I complain to about this?

Iv clearly been completely overlooked! Isn’t it my gps job to follow up with patients!!!

They did the 6 week postpartum check so why not a diabetes check surely in my case that should have been part of the postpartum check!!

Just wanted to add they never once mentioned any follow up. We went through a rather traumatic experience a month before the end of my last pregnancy and I Think everyone was so caught up with that and wanting to know what happened that it just wasn’t on the radar I feel. And after birth they were preoccupied with my blood pressure. The only thing they did was the prick finger test for a couple of days after he was born and said I was fine and back to normal and that was that!

There’s been no mentioned of any follow on checks in the past 22 months or before he was born until now! My partner is a sponge and was at every appointment and even he’s said there was never any mention of any follow on checks they where just bothered obviously about getting my numbers right whilst pregnant.
