Teething and milk blisters 😭

J

Hey ladies.

I’m wondering if anyone had experience with teething being linked to recurring milk blisters?

In the last month, my daughter has had two bottom teeth eruptions. She’s also teething elsewhere (8.5 months old). In that same time, I’ve had THREE milk blisters spread across both nipples. It’s not fun. 😭

The way I hold her as she breastfeeds corresponds to where the blisters are, which is where her newly erupted bottom teeth rub against my nipples. I’ve tried encouraging her to tuck her teeth in as she feeds according to some tips I found in a LLL article online. We’ve been mostly successful, but just one occasion of her teeth rubbing against my nipple seems to be enough to cause a blister.

I keep my nipples clean and I don’t even wear a bra! Just loose tops. I use lanolin fairly regularly, but this doesn’t seem to be enough now that her teeth are here... I tried going back to nipple shields, which worked in the weeks after she was born, but she’s now at an age where she just pulls them off. 🤦🏼‍♀️ The only thing that seems to help is silver nipple cups, but I can’t wear these all the time and it’s super annoying to keep pulling them off/putting them back on every time she feeds.

So I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed a teething-milk blister link? How did you get through it? I really need to know!

I’m not ready to stop breastfeeding, but this sure does SUCK... 😅😭

PS - she won’t breastfeed in any position besides cradle hold.
