How to calculate due date?

Hi ladies. I’m a bit disconcerted by the fact that I calculated my due date based on the first day of my period (standard here in U.K.) and the app is telling me I’m 4 weeks pregnant - when I’m really only a couple of weeks pregnant at most? Is this correct? Should I do this calculation based on the day I ovulated as this would be a tad more accurate? What did you input on your app? Due date + a couple of weeks? Due date based on ovulation?

Yes they go by your last period because it is a definite date versus an estimate of implantation / ovulation!

How far along you are is calculated based on the first days of your last cycle, even though you're not technically pregnant the first two weeks or so of that cycle. If you google a due date calculator it will ask for your last period date and calculate how far along you are. So if you ovulated let's say, two weeks ago that would put you at around 4 weeks pregnant.

The doctor will go by the first day of your last period. Although you feel like you should be further along, its best to go by the medical way.

Yes to all the previous comments. 
If you have an extra long cycle, mention that to your doctor. They will probably go by the first day of last period still. But if your baby is measuring small or you go past your due date the information could be relevant and get you a more accurate due date. 
It is funny to me that they insist on using the period as the measure for women who are tracking their ovulation and dates they had intercourse. I used a fertility monitor and knew exactly when I ovulated. But they still used my period to determine the due date.

Some cultures go by ovulation date, and will say pregnancy is 38 weeks long. US and UK go by the date of your period bc most women don’t know exactly when they ovulated, and we say pregnancy is 40 weeks. It comes out to the same date.
