Benjamin is here! ❤️

Y’all, this birth was TOTALLY different than my first! I had an appointment at 2:30 yesterday, and I was at 5 cm. I was direct admitted to L&D, and we got settled into the hospital around 4 PM.

They checked me when I got there, and I was 6 CM and I wasn’t in any pain at all! With my daughter, at 6 CM, I was begging for the epidural. They ended up breaking my water, and I began to feel the contractions, but nothing like was 6 CM was when I had my daughter. I was able to walk around, and moving really helped take the edge off! Once they became stronger, I took a shower and that helped a lot, as well. As soon as I hit 7 cm (around 7 PM) the contractions became super intense and I just sobbed through all the contractions. I requested the epidural around 8.

They had trouble with the epidural. Apparently I have a curved spine, which makes sense because I had trouble getting the epidural with my daughter, as well.

After the epidural, I felt a lot better and was able to relax. They checked me, and I was at 9 cm after the epidural. They called the doctor around 8:45. Up until then, I didn’t feel any pressure. It didn’t take but about ten minutes, and I felt like I had to poop and had tons of pressure, that was actually pretty painful, “down there”. They checked again at 9, and I was 10 cm and ready to go. I kept saying I had to push, but baby was so low that they kept telling me to wait on the doctor. The doctor arrived at 9:15, and we began pushing at 9:25. Even though I had the epidural, I felt a LOT of pain.

Benjamin Matthew was born on October 12, at 9:35 PM. He weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and is 19 1/4 inches long. He shares a birthday with his great-grandfather, who turned 94 yesterday!

His great grandfather woke up the residents at the assisted living facility that he lives at when I got the call that Benjamin was born on his birthday. He gave a pretty loud “woo-hoo” from what I have been told! ❤️

I know nothing about boys, and I’m nervous about bringing home a little boy, but we are over the moon and so thrilled to have our Benjamin with us!
