Crib to full size bed?

Looking for advice. I’m due in April with baby #2, my first born will be 26 months then. We are thinking about how to create his new room to open up the nursery before then. A girlfriend of mine in this same position a few years ago went straight to a full size bed instead of a toddler bed. She said it allowed her or her husband to sleep in the bed while the other was on shift waking up with the newborn at night. She said it allowed for better sleep for everyone (at least baby #1 and parent sleeping in full bed). It also saved money skipping the toddler bed and accessories. Has anyone done this?
