Having a shared Christmas gift between siblings?

I have two boys, one is 3 and the other is 1. We don't give our children a lot, we usually buy them three gifts. However, now our big boy has a brother, some things feels like it's more a gift to both of them, not that it matters that much because they share everything anyway. But, I was thinking maybe it could be a nice tradition that they give each other a gift, then they get a gift from us, and that the third gift is a shared gift to the both of them. I was thinking that when they get older they can wish for more expensive things together, like gaming consoles or such. Do you think it would be a good idea? I'm an only child myself so I don't really understand sibling dynamics.

With them being so close in age, I think a shared gift along with the gift from each other is nice! They're getting gifts to share and gifts of their own. That's also not including gifts from family. You could always ask for individual gifts from family, or if the shared gift is something expandable like a train set or race track then they can get extra pieces to that!

My girls are 18 months so we’ve done this many many times (trampoline, expensive doll house, Wii U, etc). It always works out fine

Mine are 20 months apart and they’re getting a train table to share. They’ll be happy. Kids this age don’t really know what’s going on, they just want to be happy and play.

I think a shared gift is a great idea especially for things that won’t just belong to one of them. Big things should be shared equally and that way no one can say “it’s mine.”

My brother and sister who are 6 years apart would always prefer to get combined gift. They both were gamers from a very young age and shared everything. So it can be done.

I think this is a fantastic idea. From a young age it teaches them about sharing, and also generosity by having one of their gifts being from each other.

I think it’s a great idea. I think it’s nice for them to also have something for them self but there are certain things I am not going to buy two of ) play kitchens, easels, swing sets, bounce house, sandbox) all of those items is a one time purchase .

Their birthdays are November 5 and November 11.
We always do one big shared gift. I think its a perfect idea.

I have 4 siblings, and every year my mom got us a shared gift. I’m 34 and she still does lol, it was usually a board game or video game and now it’s usually an expansion pack for Cards Against Humanity. And with 5 kids she sometimes got gifts that were for 2 or 3 of us to share (we have some small and big age gaps). It was never a problem for us. Now that I have 2 I’m getting them a shared gift every year, last year it was a sensory bin table and this year it’ll be one of those big doodle mats.

It's a good idea in theory but you know what they say about the beat laid plans....
They are going to fight endlessly because of this. Get them each their own things...
