Training your manager!!?

Question

I have been at my company for several years. I could do my job with my eyes closed. My manager recently left for a better position. So happy for her. The only reason I wasn’t able to fill her role was because I don’t have a degree. This rule has recently changed this year. I spent 5 years at this company excelling and learning everything I can so that I could fill her role when she left but nope recent rule change has said that I can’t. But now I’m expected to train my new manager on how to be my manager!! And try to do my job at the same time. This is such BS. No extra compensation. Nothing. I’m so tired of this company. They put entirely too much responsibility on me to receive nothing in return. What you do in my position!?

Well first off, I would feel frustrated. I would also do everything I can to put that aside and not take it out on your new manager, it’s not their fault. You have to decide if you like your job enough to stay. I’m salary and due to the pandemic I had to work a lot of extra hours “unpaid.” I still struggle with that BUT in a non covid world, I love my job and so I decided to stick around. I’m sorry you’re in this situation. Never too late to go back to school! ♥️

Ugh this was me for 3 years. I took a leap of faith and accepted a new position, and couldn’t have been a better decision. Maybe start looking and see what’s out there, and the right thing may have a way of finding you. Def feel your frustration here! Like yea, let me train you to make more money than I do 😂 sounds like a joke. Try talking to someone, and if they don’t want to do anything about it, I’d start looking elsewhere. Thanks ladies for all your words of encouragement. I ended up having to call HR and was told that it’s essentially my job. Unfortunately nothing else I can do in this situation but deal with it 🤷‍♀️

I would definitely be seeking other opportunities immediately so that I could leave.
   Also do higher ups know you want to move up? Id talk to them about other positions u may qualify for or let them know youre interested in new opportunities. Sometimes experience exceptions are made in replace of education.

Typically companies won’t have you train your own “boss” bc them it causes issues. If you can do it with out having issues later go for it. Buuuutjf it was me I’d ask them if you can take the position in return for getting your degree while you do the job. A lot of companies if they have the perfect candidate will give them that position under the agreement they must have the degree in x amount of tkme. I would atleast ask if this is a option if you want the job

That definitely sucks. I would be mad as well. Is there someone else you can talk to about this? Or what is it you need for the position and is it something you can get quickly or is it more schooling?

Honestly, I had the degree and still got passed over because of office politics. I was the youngest person and had been there the shortest amount of time, even though I excelled. I ended up leaving within the year for a different job. Sad part was the new manager still contacted me after I left to ask questions.
