Swollen neck gland behind ear

Not sure what it is. I have a doc appt scheduled. This morning i woke up with a swollen lump behind my ear where my hairline meets my neck - painful/tender. Sudden. Didn’t notice a lump nor pain before today.

Anyone experience this? I’m super freaked out.

doc said she is not overly concerned and wants to handle like this:

1.time -2-6 weeks go go down or disappear

2. if that doesn’t resolve it, then a course of antibiotics

3. if that doesn’t do it, then blood test and go from there

Because i had a lot of anxiety over it being something serious, she is doing 1&2 together.

So, i am going to start antibiotics and if in 2-4 weeks it’s not gone, then let her know. or! if it’s bigger worse or more painful, we skip to #3.

today, i’m swallowing a lot of post nasal drip and it’s already decreased in size and pain, but still painful.

She said could be a virus, like a cold or a virus...

I don’t go out unless it’s doc appts ... since March! so, no known covid exposure.
