Should I Get Rid Of Our Gun?

My husband isn't doing any better being off his medication for so long. We are waiting to here back from sooner care. If he could just get medicaid or unemployment until he finds another job it could help so. I'm scared when I go to work everyday because I feel like he's gonna send the kids to their room and shoot himself. We have a gun locked away in a safe that we both have a key too. He has depression and bipolar and he's trying to be okay for the kids but kids aren't dumb. They know their daddy is sad. It's gotten really bad over the past few days, I'll come home from work and he will be curled in a ball on the bed crying. Then he drinks really bad at night to try to numb the pain. He never drinka around the kids. I'm praying we here something from medicaid soon. He feels useless because I'm barely making anything and he hasn't found a job. Hes been helping with the kids but dazed off like he isn't in his own body. He's just so depressed and I no longer feel comfortable having a gun in the house. Should I just get rid of the gun? Maybe take it to a pawn shop for some extra money. I'm just so worried for him.
