Why do people join MLM’s?

They’re so scammy to me. I don’t understand why anyone would want to join. Yet thousands of people do everyday. I’d like to understand. Can someone help me through the logic?

They lure people with the promise of being your own boss and making fast money. They definitely target women, whether it be older women who are bored and oblivious to the scam or single mums who need a cash injection that can work around looking after kids.  I feel like there needs to be more warning against them!!

Some people end up being really good at it and convince other people that they can be really good at it too. 
My SIL does color street and has like 40+ people under her

Some are dumb
Some are desperate 
Some have zero else going on and need something 
But the biggest thing...MLM literally prey on people. There are a lot of exposes on them on YouTube from people who got out

I think they pray on older women who used to buy Avon, moms, and army wives. It is sad, I don't get it nor do I support it. I hate to see how much money people have lost trying to make money doing it.
