Why do people prefer people who have a lower body count.

I know plenty of people that prefer their partner to have a lower body count. I know some people don't mind. 
Just wonder why do people tend to prefer someone with a lower amount of secual partners.

Sex matters to some people on a spiritual level. They don’t want someone who doesn’t seem to value sex. And having sex with a whole bunch of people can make it seem meaningless

I’ve never willingly associated myself with people who think that matters. I imagine it has something to do with people associating shame with safe, consensual sex l, especially for women
