Paid pregnancy leave? Disability?

Okay so Im just confused. I just went on Maternity Leave this past Friday. My job says it will pay 90% up until a certain point and then 50% afterwards. I requested bonding time also after post Partum. In my last job with the school district I ended up getting DISABILITY somehow.  Does anyone know how this works? Am I supposed to fill out Disability Insurance at some point? Any comments are welcome.

I just read you already went out on maternity leave. Definitely call them ASAP. I had to have paperwork with HR a month prior to my estimated leave. The first 5 days I’m out are my own sick days. Disability kicks in after those 5. I’m paid 100% for 5 weeks after that if vaginal and if c section I’m paid 67% for 7 weeks. Then I can use personal time but not sick and/or go unpaid until my FMLA runs out. Work will send me a check that’s much smaller every payday as normal from beginning to end so I never owe them for my benefits (they just stretch out my sick/personal/disability pay and take the benefits out of there so I don’t owe them.)

Depends on the job  and the state and the union if you have one. 
My job (BIA for school district in CA) 
8 weeks pregnancy disability-paid via sick leave until that’s exhausted, then 50% pay for the remainder. 
12 weeks FMLA (baby bonding) which is most times unpaid and just holds your job for 12 weeks. HOWEVER my union has a negotiation for differential pay which will pay me for those 12 weeks, usually the difference between my pay and a subs pay but if they don’t hire a sub I’m SUPPOSED to make my full check. But that is rare they usually fill the position with a sub. 
After that I can take an extended leave of absence completely unpaid, come back, or resign. 
Call HR and have them break it down. 
Ask them what leave you’re covered by and what % each one is. Ask if there are any forms that you need to fill out to ensure that your leave is uninterrupted and paid for however long it’s supposed to be. You could also do it through email for a paper trail if you want or ask them to email it to you after you talk.

It super depends on where you are. I’m in NY and was only eligible for paid time after baby was born, once he was born I was able to get short term, paid family leave, and fmla to protect my job during extended unpaid leave. Any time before baby was born I used my saved up paid time off. 
Def contact your hr ASAP and make sure you keep a copy of everything and a paper trail of your communications (send an email follow up after phone calls saying you just want to confirm what you discussed on the phone and basically repeat everything they said so all the have to send back is a quick yes, this covers you from them denying they said you’d get something).

With disability you should automatically get insurance unless it's different where you are

You work for a school and they are only covering a percentage? Are you using your own sick time?

You need to call HR. Every place is different. The employer has to offer disability. Some do and some don’t. Have you filled out paperwork for it?
