Is he ready for potty training?

Question

My son is 18 months old so I’m kinda hesitant to potty train him yet. He doesn’t know how to say “poo” or “pee”, but every time he goes #1 or 2, he says “Oh-Ou” and points to his diaper. We also know his #2 schedule pretty well since it’s fairly consistent. Now he’s really fighting against putting on diaper. Obviously I can force to put it on but that’s not an ideal situation to be in.
The reason why I hesitate, is that if we go with the potty training, I want it to be 4-5 intensive days or however long it takes to fully train him without having to put a “safety diaper” on. I personally feel like there’s not that much “getting used to” sitting on a toilet/potty so I don’t want this to be a dragged out months long thing where little by little he uses it more etc. I also worry about car rides, accidents in a restaurant etc because again, he doesn’t talk talk yet so I don’t know how he could express his need to go use bathroom.
What do you think? Is he ready or should I wait? I’m perfectly fine waiting, but just wondering if someone’s young toddler has shown the same signs and been super happy when potty trained.

You can try but at this age I don’t know if I would do the intense approach. If he doesn’t like it, don’t push it. My daughter started trying just when she turned 2 because she showed a lot of signs being ready and can communicate very well but the sensation of peeing without a diaper freaked her out so we stopped after a day. 
18 months is still very early so there is really no rush

Pull up and better then diapers at this age 😂 but I started introducing potty training at 13 months my son will be 2 end of January. We do pull ups in the morning when I know he will poop and big boy undies the second half of the day! We just tell him we are going potty and we walk him to the potty and help him on! I stared early so we would have plenty of tkme for him to get comfortable with it!

I would try it out! Some baby’s are ready earlier then others, but 18 months doesn’t seem unreasonable.

Check out the Oh Crap! Potty training book. It talks about younger kids learning how to go. 
Also have you thought about teaching your baby how to sign? My daughter signs “potty” to me when she needs to go and would sign it before she started saying the word. Now she can say pee, poo, and potty but still when she runs to the toilet she signs it as she runs.

Same thing is going on with my 21 month old. We started putting him on the potty every hour and he goes every time! I would definitely try it out and see🤷🏻‍♀️ but definitely still do diapers/pull ups at night for now

He is talking. He’s making a sound he can make and pointing. I don’t see an issue giving it a try. Make up a sign for potty.

Yes do it!! My son is 19 months and we just got him fully potty trained (except
For might time). He doesn’t talk but he would always tell us if he did or had to go potty. It took about a week-week and a half of like hard core taking him every 45 minutes and like focusing everything around his potty schedule, but now he’s a champ! He will tell us when he has to pee and poop, he doesn’t have poop accidents and sometimes pee sneaks up on him and he will tinkle a little but stops right away and he tells us to take him. We still take him every hour-hour and a half just because he is so little, but it’s been amazing!

Keep trying it’ll be worth it. Stop and come back if you need to. My son is 27 months and potty trained and we started around this time. He was not fully interested at first.

Definitely go ahead and introduce him to the potty and try it. Do it slowly. Make sure he is comfortable and ready. If he isn't ready and you try to make him it will set him back.
