Dog was unable to get an exam at the vets yesterday ..

My dog has anxiety so gets very skiddish with certain things, he started at a new vet yesterday and because of covid I wasn’t allowed in with him. So it’s already a stressful situation for him, new vet/people in a place that smells like other animals and his owner is nowhere to be seen.

I told them to make a note that he doesn’t like his paws being touched, reminded them before he went in and for some reason they went straight to trying to cut his nails before doing the rest of exam/giving his vaccine and he started getting aggressive(I know this cause the vet called me back to tell me this 5-10 mins after he went in and that’s not enough time for them to have tried anything else)

I personally think if they attempted that part last(cutting his nails) it would have been more successful.

Anyways. So he gave me some meds to give him for his next apt. One for anxiety and one for mild sedation.

So I’m hoping that’s enough.

Does anyone else have dogs that get really worked up for vet visits?

Anyone been given the same medications to get through the exam? Did it work?
