2 year old sleeping arrangement? Baby on the way!

Question

My 2 year old is still in his crib because he would not stay in bed otherwise. I am due with second baby in January. While I do not need the crib right away for the new baby, I will need it sometime in the next 6-8 months. Should I just leave my toddler in his crib and transition at a later time while baby is in a bassinet? Or should I try again to transition him to a big boy bed now before the baby arrives? Or third option is I buy a second crib?

Get a lycra bed sheet, it is stretchy but the child is still restricted enough that the child should theoretically be unlikely to move even though he/she still can

Sarahs pediatrician told us to do antoddler or day bed now before she tried to climb out of it and broke a limb. Shes fallen out of it a few times, but we kept stuffed animals and blankets down to cushion her fall. 
If you meant intentionally wouldn't stay in it her dr said that she may stay up to play or get out of bed and if she did thats fine, eventually she will stay in bed or she's gonna fall asleep on the floor. Eventually she would learn the bed is more comfortable. Fortunately once she's in bed we leave a toy for her to play with, she falls asleep and stays in bed until I go to get her in the morning, unless she rolls out of bed, the times I've caught her she just climbs back up and tu ks herself back in.

We transitioned my son in August (due in December) and are just now getting him back sleeping through the night so I’d say try transition sooner rather then later giving him as much time as possible to adjust. My son also cut his 2 year molars during this time and there is a 2 year sleep regression. We still have a hard time getting him to stay in bed at first when he lays down but is back to sleeping through the night in his own bed.
