How do you sleep train a baby?

This may be a stupid question but I keep hearing other moms mention sleep train their baby and how it works so well. What exactly is sleep train? How do you do it ?

Taking cara babies - sleep training class is “ABCs of Sleep” and it was a life saver and worth every penny. But not until 5-6 months! We did it at 6 months and my baby has been sleeping 12 hours a night ever since. My baby took to it really well and I’ve heard it’s easier if you start at 6 months rather than waiting until they’re older

Ferber Method..worked for all 5 of my kids. Wait to do this until about 5-6 months though. If you choose this, commit to it and you’ll see success! Good luck

Buy a book with good reviews and follow it. I didn’t sleep train my fourth baby because I thought she was my last and now I’m pregnant again and she’s two and still sleeping with me. I JUST got her to wean, she had been nursing still multiple times a night. I regret not sleep training her. I did half heartedly try, but you have to commit to it for it to work. I sleep trained my first three successfully.

There are different methods. I didn’t follow one in particular but did some research and watched YouTube videos and also advice from my sister (she paid a lot of money for a sleep consultant). I had trouble with cry it out. So I ultimately did what I was comfortable with and it worked out fine:) she slept in my room until 1 and at that point I was ready to transition her and have my own space. She was about 13 months. I got a sound machine and fan. She needed to feel safe in her new space so I would sit with her at first. Slowly I’d start to leave and she would cry. So I would go back and comfort. This went on for while  but eventually I was able to just put her in her crib and she’d play for awhile and just lay down. She sleeps in a sleep sack and I put a few familiar safe toys in with her. And extra binkies. Biggest thing I’ve learned is consistency is key! They need routine and structure. I will say the same things for nap time and bedtime and she knows what to expect. She’s done amazing with it. Sleeps 12ish hours at night and 1 nap a day (2 hours). She’s 16 months now. I could’ve started before the 1 year mark but I just wasn’t ready. But I’m so glad I did because we all sleep better!

Research. We started at 5 6 months now shes gonna be 7 in 2 days and she's going amazing. Napping on her own sleeping in her crib. Hopefully we keep this up
