Transitioning to toddler bed

At what age did you transition your child to a toddler bed? My son will be two at the end of this month. He just climbed out of his crib for the first time but he climbed onto the rocking chair and then got down. So I moved the chair and he tried a few times and realized he couldn’t do it. I don’t know if I should move his chair somewhere else in his room or just start the transition. Also for those who have transitioned their toddlers to beds, how in the heck do you get them to stay? 😬😬
