Wondering if IUI is worth another try?

Michelle

I am approaching 42 y/o and trying for baby #2. I just tried my first back to back IUI. I had one natural pregnancy 3 years ago which really surprised me, after one try.

This time I am trying to conceive on my own, using frozen sperm and IUI at my OB’s office. I think I’m about 11-12 dpo now. By now I would have thought I’d feel symptoms like I did last time, but I feel nothing. All BFN’s. It’s disappointing but I knew the chances of IUI working on the first try at my age are low. Like 5% I think.

I’m contemplating do I try another IUI, or go through the longer and Much more expensive process if IVF? I didn’t do IVF the first time because as a single mom it’s not easy to give myself all the shots, it’s around $18k!!, have to find daycare for my son, take off work to go to all the doctor visits. It seems like it will be really stressful to go to all the appointments.

My IUI’d were easy, my doctors office is close to home, she allows my son to come with me to all visits with is a huge plus and it just felt like a family experience. My son just watched Moana while I get inseminated LOL.

Anyone out there have advice? It it worth trying IUI again or am I wasting my time and money and should just proceed to IVF?

For reference my lab work looked good and FSH level was 5.8. I produced two mature follies around 17-21 in size for my IUI, clomid and a trigger shot. The doctor did comment that the frozen sperm sample was very small, good motility and count but small sample. Maybe trying growth a different sperm sample would help?
