When do you start introducing water to your baby?

I asked my pediatrician about it. She wasn’t really clear just said to hold it off for a bit. A friend of mine said her pediatrician told her to introduce water to her two month old. I saw on Instagram on a post that it’s is best to introduce only at six months old. I’m wondering when is it most commonly introduced. How old and how much to give at first.

Two months old is way too early. Typically you introduce water when you introduce solids at 6 months old.

You can offer small amounts starting around 6 months but it is really not necesssary. Formula or breast milk should be their primary source. Around a year is generally appropriate for more water.

It’s only at 6m plus old and ONLY 2oz max in 24hrs. Honestly it’s not even necessary as breastmilk/formula is all the hydration a baby needs.

I don’t do water until maybe 10 -12 months. They don’t really need it any younger so I wait. I don’t mind adding it to small amounts of juice at 6-8 months when they start eating food but not by itself. I’ll pass.

My mother helps me raise my daughter and she started giving my baby water at 2 weeks old just to let her taste It and get used to water. Obviously not letting her chug water. But just sips of water once a day and then by 2 months she’d let her have a few sips and by 6 months she was having a couple ounces a day. She’s almost 9 months now and loves water.

We live in a very hot country, so started it at 6 months shortly after introducing solids. Only a few sips here and there throughout the day at first though
