When can kiddos wear light jackets in the car?

What's a good milestone to go by?   Age?   When they go forward facing?  When they're out of the car seat?

My aunt told me to put them in the car seat then put the jacket on backwards over them after they are buckled. My uncle is a police officer and that is what he suggests

If you’re on IG I highly recommend @safeintheseat. She is a wealth of knowledge all things car seat & has been addressing this lately. A “light jacket” should be fine, but you should always test a jacket or coat (she has a video on how to test). Puffy coats are a never.

Nobody is supposed to wear a puffy jacket or coat in the car. My kids wear thin fleece jackets. Their straps don’t need to be adjusted compared to no jacket so I think it’s safe. I give them both blankets in the car too that they put on top of themselves after they’re buckled.

No jackets or coats when they are in a car seat. It doesn’t matter what age.

I only put a sweatshirts on my toddler. Nothing else - no puffy or bulky jackets

Depends on how you define "light jacket". Nothing puffy or at all thick should be worn in carseats. It creates unsafe gaps between the child and the straps. If it's like a cardigan or fleece, it's thin and a single layer not making the gap.
