Shocking EPU experience UK

TU

I just spent three hours waiting in the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU, based in UK) only to be told by a very young and completely sterile and uncaring doctor, ‘This happens to 1 in 4 women (after waiting anxiously for 3 hours).’

I then asked her ‘what’ happens? Are you telling me that I’m having a miscarriage? You haven’t even told me yet that my pregnancy done at the EPU is negative!

I’m 5 weeks (well I was when I woke up this morning 😔) but have been spotting brown blood for the past three days which has been getting more and more. Today feeling light cramps too.

I’m 32 and this was my first ever positive result. I am devastated.

This morning with FMU I had a negative on a cheap ‘One Step’ test and a ‘Positive’ digital (which still only said 1-2 weeks). (I got my first positive 2 weeks ago and have been checking since).

I said to the doctor, you asked me to do a urine sample but I had drunk about 3 pints of water before coming here and my urine was very dilute so I’m not surprised your test came back negative.

She took my blood for HCG and told me she would call me in the morning with the result and that I ‘probably wouldn’t need to come back in again 48 hours later for obvious reasons.’

I’m in shock, devastated and also angry. Did not give me any advice as to what to expect in terms of the miscarriage or how to get support.
