How to fix this? Suggestions?

Hi everyone! So when we bought our house this part was as is...drawers were missing. There’s exposed staples and parts that could leave splinters. We don’t leave my son unattended right now but eventually when he’s older we want him to be able to play in his room without concern. Trying to figure out how to fix this. Doors? Big shelves? Any ideas?

Wood on the bottom should be sanded and painted or stained. Then the small boxes where you would’ve had drawers, you could either buy or make drawers and create a nice office space or you could just put wood in them and use them as shelves. Could put storage boxes with craft materials or toys for the little ones inside or just decorative elements. As for the larger spaces, you could create a nice hide out for your kid (string lights, shelves for books, beanbag chair) they can crawl in and read. Or if it’s a space for you, you could install sliding doors and use it to store stuff or as a filing cabinet. Depends on what the room is for.

You could either make drawers to fit or take a thin sheet of wall paneling and cover up where the drawers are. You could also probably take pliers to pull the staples out and then sand down the edges so there are no splinters and possibly paint it?
