Still needs swaddle at 5 months. Help!

A

My little one still needs her swaddle.

I’ve been trying to break her of the habit for a few weeks, and I can’t make it work. At first she wouldn’t sleep at all (until we hit 3 am and I gave in and swaddled her). I gave it some time and tried again. She would let me nurse her to sleep, but would wake up every 30 minutes completely distressed and freaked out. No slow build up or anything, just 0-60, wake up, realize the arm is out and freak out.

I gave her a few more days and now I’m ready to try again.

One arm out, both arms out. Zippadee zip. Nothing works.

She’s a preemie, born in June at 34 weeks.

Is it supposed to be this bad? I feel like she’s just not ready.

And she can’t roll from back to tummy yet. She’s only rolled from tummy to back a handful of times, and all in the last week.

She uses a halo sleepsack swaddle. So there’s no risk of her getting the blanket loose and suffocating or anything.

Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. What have been your experiences weaning from a swaddle? All the articles I’ve read make it sound so easy. But it’s just impossible here. Has anyone swaddled their baby after the rolling started?
