Did you have a positive experience breastfeeding ?

I’m wondering if it’s normal to struggle breastfeeding or if I’m doing something wrong😭

After 3 kids I can say that breastfeeding isn’t for me. With my first I had this expectation of a wonderful bonding experience that will just happen naturally. He was a formula baby from day one. I couldn’t do it. I had no help (I was young and alone on a different continent without family). With my second, I ended up supplementing until she was around 4 months old and then I switched to formula full time. It completely ruined my boobs and my self esteem. With my third I did it for about 6 weeks and then decided it wasn’t worth the hassle anymore with 2 under 2, a full time job and an endless amount of appointments.
All I can recommend every new mom is not not pressure yourself and especially, don’t let OTHERS pressure you into something that’s not for you. Breastfeeding is HARD and I have a lot of respect for every mom who is able to pull through. 
If you feel like giving up or need to supplement, that’s okay. Your baby won’t starve. And as in for the bonding: none of my kids ever get off my butt cause they’re too attached to me (yes, my 9 year old too lol) so there are other ways to bond

For some stupid reason I expected it to come easy and feel totally natural! It did not! I absolutely hated it for the first 5 months! But I’m too stubborn to quit unfortunately!:( he’s 6 months now and for the last month it’s been awesome! We got reflux medication and I think that helped a ton! There can be many reasons why it’s hard, reflux, latching issues like tongue or lip ties.

I’m at 20 weeks and overall it’s been a positive experience. My baby went from NICU tiny 1% to the 20%. She is so big and healthy now. But it’s been HARD. I had a clogged nipple poor just today, hurts like crazy. Multiple clogged milk ducts and trouble pumping and knowing if I was producing enough. Every time I look at this beautiful baby I know I’m doing great though. Keep it up if you want to, you got this!

Ups and downs through the breastfeeding process with all my kids.  I would still say they were positive experiences even when having had bad days (or weeks) with all of them

Nope, bad experience. My milk never came in. We were a formula family by day 5. It was exhausting. If we have another, I’d never attempt so hard to breastfeed. It just wasn’t worth the stress.

I had a hard time in the first week and then I saw an amazing lactation consultant. I just didn’t realise that we were not getting a correct latch. One lactation consultant I saw early on told me I wasn’t producing enough but once I saw the good lactation consultant I ended up producing an excess amount of milk that I was able to freeze. We had a very smooth journey from them onwards and I continued breastfeeding until my LO was 22 months.
I would strongly recommend you see a lactation consultant if you’re having difficulty and would like to continue breastfeeding if you can. Keep in mind that not all lactation consultants are equal- ask for local recommendations. 
And if you do end up mix feeding or formula feeding that is more than ok too- fed is best and you’ve got to do what works for your situation ❤️ I was fully formula fed as a baby.

I had a great supply but the beginning was really hard. I never expected latching the baby would be as hard as it was I didn’t expect to get sores on my nipples and for it to feel so awful every time I nursed. I didn’t expect the leaking all over the bed or spraying myself and the baby down from the opposite nipple as he nursed. The first 2 weeks was the worst bc of the pain but I really didn’t start feeling more like myself until my supply settled and I didn’t feel and leak like a cow. We made it 22 months and I plan to nurse again. Idk if I’ll do another 22 months tho😅
