Anyone have hyperthyroidism ? and gad to do Surgery for it ?

I can’t find barely anyone who’s in a similar situation. I’m going in for thyroid surgery I’m going to have it removed, I have hyperthyroidism and I have TERRIBLE levels. We’ve  been ttc for 2 years almost. My endro rushed my surgery and now I’m having it this upcoming Thursday. I’m very nervous and honestly have NO idea what to expect because we didn’t talk about the surgery at all (Endro). I go for my surgery and get to meet my surgeon, talk for a min, and get on with surgery. I’ve never had surgery so this is my first one. I really don’t know what to expect. My fiancé can’t go with me or visit me (I have to stay 48 to be monitored) because of covid guidelines 😩 What should I to expect? What should I bring to keep me safe and comfortable? I have Terrible anxiety around people, and anxiety taking medicine,  and just being in certain situations but I can’t just not ya know haha 
My doctors are pushing me towards surgery because it’s the best choice for me they said.

Also, let them know you’re super anxious at baseline. They can prescribe you meds to make you more comfortable. They’ll give you something IV prior to anesthesia that will make you feel tipsy and relaxed. You’ll fall asleep shortly after and before you know it, you’ll be waking up and surgery will be over (it will feel like no time has passed). Your throat might be sore from the breathing tube (which is removed before you wake up) and you might have a funny taste in your mouth. Ask for ice chips. When were you diagnosed? Have you tried other treatments or are you heading straight to surgery? Do you have Grave’s disease (if not, what is causing your hyperthyroidism)? If you’re not comfortable, you can seek out a second or third opinion before making a decision. Is it outpatient surgery or will you spend the night? I’m a nurse, I’m hypothyroid and on medication and my husband had a total thyroidectomy a couple of years ago, so I’m fairly well-versed when it comes to the thyroid. Surgery is never fun, but if it’s necessary, you’ll feel tons better once you recover. Don’t forget to bring a phone charger with a long cord and maybe a comfy pillow. I don’t remember the surgery being particularly painful for my husband. He did have a drain in place for about 24 hours; that can be a little uncomfortable. He does fairly well with anesthesia; for me, anesthesia makes me incredibly nauseous. If you feel nauseous at all, speak up and ask for meds right away. It’s easier to get ahead of it while it’s still mild— same goes for pain... don’t be afraid to take the meds! It’s super important to get up and walk around as soon as you can post op- that facilitates healing and prevents complications. It’s also important to remember that because you won’t have a thyroid, you absolutely have to keep up with your medications and doctors appointments for the rest of your life. Failing to do so will be deadly. And sometimes, it can take a while after surgery to regulate your thyroid hormone levels, so keep in mind results will not be instant. Do they want you to hold off on ttc till this is all under control? I hope everything works out for you and I wish you the best!
