Christmas tradition ideas?

I know it probably sounds cheesy but I want to be that typical family that has Christmas traditions that we do every year. My son will be 2 this year so we can start doing some things. Does anyone have any ideas? What do you do with your kids?

Mum used to wait until we were in bed Christmas Eve and then in like 10mins of us in our room she would walk around a ring a bell as if it was the reindeers on the roof. Also we used to write letters to Santa and mum would write a letter back, put it in the freezer so when my sister and I got them at breakfast they’d be cold like they just arrived from the North Pole.
Also to this very date I always have a photo with Santa and put it on the Christmas tree, this year I just get to do it with my daughter.

We always have matching PJ’s we open on Christmas Eve along with hot cocoa and a Christmas book! 😊

This is a great question! My wife and I had our first and are starting our own Christmas traditions. We want to feel like a family, and for us, that started with getting matching family stockings, with a matching tree skirt. Stockings are embroidered with names, and a fourth left blank for the next child. We then bought a new extra long, 4 hook stocking holder that says “Merry Christmas” from target. We wanted our new tradition to feel like a family tradition that has been around and procured for the ages. 
For the last decade or so, because of other young children in my family, i have donned a Santa suit (fat suit included) and jumped around the roof with my cousin and ho-ho-hoed down the chimney. My grandfather about 20 years ago got a set of “sleigh bells” that I made sure to get when he passed. Its just a leather strap with six 2” bells on it, but it sounds great when being jingled down the chimney or outside. 
Find the aspect of Christmas that you want to be uniquely yours, and build it in like layers to create special memories. 
Examples:
Go out tree shopping or chop down your own
Find a neighborhood that goes all in on Christmas lights and go walk them as a family with peppermint hot coco. (Alta Loma, CA has an epic one, and The Mission Inn hosts a festival of lights yearly, for example)
Set up and stage that Christmas card photo thanksgiving day weekend. 
Decorate the tree together, make it an event. 
Go visit an authentic European Christmas Market to pick your annual Christmas ornament.

We do an advent calendar. Each day will have an activity and/or little piece of candy. I got unreal candies because they have less ingredients and more real food. Things like going to look at Christmas lights, lighting the advent wreath, baking cookies

Bake cookies for Santa together! In my family we also had the tradition of opening a present on Christmas Eve.. so I bought my son new pjs, a christmas movie, and theater style snacks to open. Then we are all going to cuddle up on the couch in new pjs and watch the movie together Christmas Eve
