Put to sleep during c-section?

Question

Is there some way I can make it clear that if I end up needing a c-section that they’re going to have to put me to sleep or I’m not doing it? I had a meltdown the last time I had a CAVITY filled so there’s no way I’ll be able to handle being awake while they’re cutting me open, whether I can see it or not.

It’s not really a choice “or I’m not doing it” if it’s going to save your life and your baby’s life, they’ll do what’s necessary to keep both of you alive. Them putting you out is unnecessary and unsafe if it’s not needed. At the end of the day, if you let them know that you have a lot of fear and anxiety, they’ll give you medication to help with that, but they most likely will not put you out.

The only time they will completely knock you out during a c section is if there is a major issue with you. I was fully awake for mine and before they started they did say that that’s what would happen if there was a seriously medical issue with me.

If it's a crash c and you don't have an epidural, they'll do general was my understanding. Please talk to your provider about your anxiety, they are the best person to advise you of your options.

If you start panicking theyll knock you out. I've had a csection and I panick horribly over dental work.  Even a cleaning sends me into a panick attack.  
The csection Sant fun but it was totally doable.  The hardest part was between them telling me a had to have one and it starting.  With in a couple of mins my baby was out i held him for a couple of min and after that I just watched the nurses take care of him and it was fine.

This is how I was. TERRIFIED of needing a C. Labored for 24 hours and... yup, ended up needing a c section. I BEGGED to be put to sleep. They wouldn’t do it. They gave me something to relax and honestly it was fine. Once you see the baby you wonteven realize what they’re doing.

You can talk with your OB about it but they still might not allow you to be put to sleep since it's safest for you and baby  to be awake.

My mom had an emergency c section which they had to put her out for it Bc of her and my little sister losing blood I had a c section and only was numbed from the waist down was up for the whole thing it wasn’t bad at all just felt a constant tug and pull then she was out in no time I was stitched and glued up and went back to my room in less than an hour it wasn’t emergency or anything

I have meltdowns with cavities and I've had 2 c sections. The actual c section procedure is easier than someone drilling in your mouth, and they can give you anxiety meds to keep you calm if you want. If you get general anesthesia, you stop breathing and they have to intubate you with a breathing tube, you're not conscious for the birth, and it's less safe for the baby. Hopefully you won't end up in a c section anyway, but if you do, the procedure really isn't so bad. It's the recovery that's really tough.
