Pay per cycle or buy multi package?

Question

We tried IUI and are now considering IVF. Just don’t know whether we pay more for a multiple cycle package when there’s no known fertility issues. We are a lesbian couple. Funds are limited so if we tried once and it didn’t work we are screwed. But if we throw in extra cash to get more cycles and it works first time it would be such a waste. We want to start our family so bad but there’s too many what ifs. Anyone able to give some advice?

That’s tough, but I think if you’re young and healthy I’d just opt to do one cycle unless the package saves you toooons of money. IVF often works the first time for lots of couples!

How much is the discount in the package?  My clinic wasn’t offering the packages when I started, because it was right towards the beginning of Covid, but I still looked at the paperwork for what they normally offer, and it was only like a $5000 discount to do a package of two, so definitely not worth it given how expensive it all is to begin with.￼

That’s a tough one. Are your values completely clear? Are you using PGT? Are you expected to be a high responder? What are your clinics success rates?

It definitely is a personal choice but I too started with this dilemma. I am under 35 and had every thing check out in perfect health. I was nervous I would be throwing money away if I chose the multi because there wasn’t anything alarming on my end and we are here for make factor. We decided to go with a multi package for ease of mind because it was about 8k more for the 3 and it course meds for each round if it was needed. 
Both of my retrieval’s i had an ideal amount of eggs retrieved/mature but only ended up with 1 normal embryo each round so I don’t know environmentally something is going on but I would have never thought I needed more than one but I did/do. My first transfer also ended up with an ectopic with no known risk factors so our decision ended up being the right one. 
It’s a tough choice because you really won’t have anything to indicate how your retrieval is going to go and that makes it hard. Sorry I really don’t have much advice but good luck as you get started!

If all of your testing checks out and you are under 35 I wouldn’t buy a package.
