Trust yourself - My labor & delivery experience

Kiana

Well guys I had my little boy November 30th at 9:40 am; original due date was December 4th. He was 7 lbs 5 oz and 21 inches long.

Around midnight on the 30th I was having contractions (wasn't sure if real deal or Braxton hicks - first time mom here). They hurt enough that I figured I'll time them just in case (lasting for 1+ minutes and 2 minutes apart), but the pain really was comparable to like poop cramps lol. Eventually I thought it was really that I did have to just poop, so I went to the bathroom and the moment I sat down my whole mucus plug and blood came out (along with the pantyliner I was wearing was covered in blood). I called the labor and delivery unit and the on call doctor told me she didn't think I should come in because I could talk through the contractions and being first time I probably wouldn't be in active labor for about 24 hours.

Being over 30 minutes from the hospital and having bled, I decided to go in and get checked anyways. At 2:30 am I got to labor and delivery, they put me in triage (I was 2 cm dilated and having contractions) but after holding me for an hour, not dilating further and my water not breaking yet they sent me home. The nurse was a bitch - she had told me being a first timer I won't have the baby for at least 48 hours, active labor is a while away for me and because I could talk during contractions and compared them to my period pain she said it clearly wasn't bad enough (I have intense periods 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Despite my better judgment knowing my body, I left like they said. The moment I got home the contractions intensity, length and spacing got worse. I couldn't sit/lay comfortably (as the nurse told me to sleep) and i felt the worst back pain ever, like someone breaking my lower back slowly.

By the time I made it back to the hospital at 5 I was 100% thinned and almost 4 cm. I had back labor that on the chart I could see every contraction hit the highest point and I literally had only about 15 seconds between contractions. So despite wanting no epidural, I got one and thank jesus for it 🙏 🙌! I had to have my water broken and by 9 am I was 10 cm, crowning and ready to go. I had to wait for the nurses and midwife to get to me. After 25 minutes of pushing baby was born with 2 minor labia tears.

BTW I could talk through the contractions at every point 🤨.
