What to do when baby is outgrowing car seat

Question

When your baby outgrows their car seat, how do you travel with them if you don’t have a car of your own? They say to use the giant convertible car seat but am I supposed to carry that around plus the stroller, diaper bag and him if it’s to a doctors appointment? I’m a first time mom and this doesn’t make sense to me

So I’m assuming your in a city with public transportation or  lots of ride shares. There’s a few options, first I do suggest getting a rear facing or convertible car seat because you need your own for emergency situations.  Get an umbrella stroller that’s less than 5lbs and have a backpack diaper bag. That’s the great thing about transitioning from an infant carrier is at that point you sorta know when your Lil one is gonna need his toy from the bag and can be hands free with baby on one side lightweight umbrella stroller in the other hand. Ditch the stroller that the infant carrier clicks into, too bulky for travel with little one if he’s outta the carrier. Public transportation like metro/subway you don’t need a car seat, same applies for busses/trams/trolleys. Now I know some states have what’s considered a travel service exception, basically if your paying someone to use their driving services you don’t have to abide by the child restraint laws (like in a taxi)  this is a legal option if it is applicable in your state, but will have to be a personal choice for you to make with some serious thought. Other options are a car seat carrier from amazon that I purchased for airport travel I love it for moving the seat but wouldn’t omit the stroller for travel. It’s called ‘Hölm’ and is awesome for lugging a seat around. Another option is taking an Uber car seat... this is a communal car seat that may need to be adjusted based on your child’s weight/height/age and your trusting it was installed correctly but it’s basically the same price as a regular Uber and listed under the ‘more’ options, a ability and wait times are a factor as well. Good luck but remember your not the first mom to do this...start peeping what other parents in your city are doing.

If you don’t have a car you don’t need a car seat...?
I live in UK and when I had no car but took bus used stroller
If I entered a cab or uber I was holding my baby on my lap. That is legal here.

What about a booster seat. Small enough to throw it in a big backpack, depending on the kids weight. And it’s only $13 and some change at Walmart they have all different ones and different prices and colors. Unfortunately I know it sucks, but it’s better than getting a ticket or I’m trying to take your kid for child neglect or whatever it may be or calling child services on you etc. There Has to be an alternative, Booster seat like this, or the kind like at the airport that has the pole that comes out with wheels, Do a little research and check the weight limits and heights. And see if this would be a better alternative for you.

Do you have one person taking you to the appt and another picking you up? If not, just leave the car seat in their car until you get back home.
