Does anyone here know much about video games?

So I was thinking of getting the nba 2k21 for my husband for Xmas since he plays his NBA 2k20 sooooo much.   But my question is is it any different than the older one.  Like would it be a waste to get him the 2k21 if he already has the 2k20? I know absolutely nothing about video games haha.

So I play COD (call of duty) and there’s different ones (mw, mwr, mw2, ww2, bo1, bo2, bo3, bo4, Cold War) blah blah 
they would all seem the “same” but they’re not :) a good way to tell if he might want it is - does he have the other 2k games? There’s more than the ones you mentioned also if his friends have the game he might want to play it with them! Usually when a new game comes out of the game you normally play, everybody will buy it to stay ahead. 
I would go ahead to buy it :) no harm no foul!

I agree with the rest, that’s actually my hubbies favorite game and madden, and even though ( to me) it looks the same he says it’s not and the graphics online okay and all that stuff is different or upgraded... I got him the new one for his birthday too:)

If he plays a lot, its worth it. Madden football does the same thing as the NBA games with yearly releases and I know my bf would want the next version of that. The new releases have enough updates and new features that it would definitely be worth it.
