Going to dentist for overdue cleaning during Covid while pregnant?

Question

I am overdue for a cleaning but am concerned about risking exposure to Covid.  
Also worried about potentially getting gum disease since it's harmful to baby!  
Help!

Yoo the dentist doesn’t mess around. When I got my teeth cleaning done, they literally were covered head to toe in PPE had a mask & a face shield. When I checked in they only let a certain amount of people in the waiting room, otherwise you were waiting in your car. In my experience, you’ll be safe there.

I called my OB and they told me to go. It’s important and during pregnancy your more prone to plaque. They said no X-rays or scans. Double check with your OB but I think it’s important to keep good dental hygiene while pregnant

I just went yesterday. They were all wearing so much protective gear I felt completely fine. They were modifying the cleaning to prevent aerosols.

Contact your dentist and ask what they are doing to keep patients safe. My dentist office is making sure only one person is in the waiting room at a time (so not booking as many appointments), sanitizing all patient rooms in between appointments, and has air purifiers. They also made me rinse my mouth with hydrogen peroxide when I went over the summer (before I was pregnant) and the hygienist and dentist were all wearing masks, goggles, and face shields. If they have food PPE, ventilation, and are keeping waiting rooms fairly empty, it should be relatively safe. Though nothing is 100% safe, so you’ll have to weigh the risks. Best to call them and also explain that you’re pregnant and concerned. Good luck!
