Toddler wakes up & goes downstairs to play without waking me up?

Question

I am a stay at home mother. My toddler (2.5yrs) is very independent. He enjoys having time alone during the day to play with his toys & in those moments prefers I do my own thing without him. I am not surprised he has started waking up & going downstairs to play by himself. The house is baby proof. There’s nothing dangerous he is able to get into.
What would you do in this situation? Should I set out a healthy snack & sippy cup for him? Should I make sure I’m awake before him?

We have an alarm clock with a light on it when it tells the kid that it’s okay to be out of bed and playing in the room (it’s yellow) and then green when it’s okay to come out or come get us. I would maybe set some toys out in your kids room if they’re waking up a bit earlier. My son is also a really independent toddler, but I wouldn’t want him out of his room if I’m not awake personally.

It's great that baby is becoming self sufficient at such a young age and comfortable with independent play. That's amazing. 
However.....
It is really dangerous for the baby to be alone on a different floor while you are asleep. Kids get into trouble sometimes and can end up in a situation where they need help. Also, you never want a child that young to be eating and drinking without you within earshot. That is a recipe for disaster.
What I would suggest is waking with him and going downstairs together. You let him play on his own and then take some time to rest on the couch or grab a cup of coffee.

Uh is your house baby proofed if your toddler can get downstairs without you?   We have baby gates up so our daughter can't get to the stairs...

i understand it’s baby proof and he cant get anything that will harm him but it’s still super dangerous. i would try your best to be awake before him even if you’re still laying down so you can keep an ear and eye out on him.

If he was like 5. I might be okay with this myself. 2.5 is too young. You just don’t know when they will figure jumping off a counter is a good idea or figuring out the lock on the door. They just don’t have the good sense or understanding of consequences yet.

Nope wake up before hand. My oldest was this way and i promise your house is never a 100 percent baby proof 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

I baby proofed my daughters room (she’s 2) and have one of those things on her door knob so she doesn’t leave her room without waking me first. Even though I don’t THINK there’s anything for her to get into, toddlers are crazy and you just never know. I’d rather wake up to her playing in her room vs roaming the house.

How lovely, most parents don’t get to sleep in like that until their kids are in elementary school!
But I wouldn’t want a kid that age with access to a kitchen (a 4 year old nephew of mine was allowed to get up early and fix his own breakfast until he decided to use the toaster and burned his fingers badly one morning.
Ensure they don’t have access to a bathtub without you, my son could turn on the water at the age, you never know what they’ll think of. 
Also if you have blinds, hanging cords are a strangulation hazard if he decides to play with them one morning.
I would talk to him and explain he needs to stay upstairs unless a grownup is up with him. Baby gate the stairs, sleepy kids can trip just like grownups. Put some toys in his room and a shatterproof kid’s light that he can turn on.

Maybe get a cheap baby camera from amazon and have the monitor in Your room and also get a door knob cover so he can’t open the door in his room!
