How does breastfeeding work?

Husband and I are expecting our first baby so I have no breastfeeding experience. How does it work? When I pump, I will store the excess in bags in the freezer/fridge, right? When it’s time for baby to drink it, I warm it and add it to a bottle? Is there a particular bottle/nipple that you recommend for a newborn? I’ve seen some bottles that have little baggies in them. What is the point of the baggie or is that the same bag the milk is stored in from the freezer/fridge? 🧐 Any other tips?

Def take a class even if it’s virtual! Breast feeding is hard work so you want to set yourself up as best you can if it’s something you definitely want to do!

I exclusively breastfed both of my kids. Ask your ob about a lactation class before baby comes. There are a ton of youtube videos too. You dont just have to pump. On demand breastfeeding is great too. Lots of great immunities and benefits for you too like bonding, helps with post partum depression and reducing breast cancer risk.
2 rules with breastfeeding and fear of baby not getting enough (most common fear).
As long as baby has wet diapers, and is growing baby is getting plenty. All babies dropw weight after birth, they should gain back to birth weight by 2 weeks. Alot of mamas will supplement unneccesarily.as long as they have wet diapers, no need to stress. Some mamas worry about lack of poopy diapers, breastfed babies absorb alot of the  breastmilk, there is not much waste. They dont poop as much.

I pumped and frozen baggies so they last longer. 6 mo to 1 year. 
Tip: never heat milk in the microwave

Are you planning to feed at the breast or to pump milk and feed it, or both? There are vastly different things to know in all 3 scenarios. I didn’t find the class I did helpful at all, but if you make a prenatal appointment with a lactation consultant that is your best bet. If you want to pump at all though you should make that clear when you make the appointment so you don’t end up with an anti-pumping LC.

Yes,  it would definitely be beneficial to sign up for a breastfeeding beginners class, there’s also a lot of online resources if you can’t find a class. I utilized https://www.llli.org a lot early on when preparing for my first and when I had questions while learning once my daughter was born. They had a lactation consultant available once I gave birth to help get things started too, I would check to see if you have that available to you.
