My girl is 5 months and I notice that when she reaches for toys or sucks on her hands it is almost always the right hand. She can do it with the left, but clearly prefers the right. Is this bad? I have read that handedness should not appear this young. Anyone else’s baby do this?

My daughter also prefers her right side. She has since she was born! She’ll do things with her left side but definitely has a preference for her right side I’m not worried about it her ped said she’s fine

Mine does both but mainly his left. He at times does a lot more with his left than his right hand. Just kind of how he’s going but his pediatrician wasn’t even a bit worried.

My baby did this a little a couple of months back. I think however he might’ve had a little bit of tightness in his neck (torticolis) causing him to favor his left hand and only turn in one direction in the beginning. I read a lot online and some tips I found helpful is alternate the way you place your baby in their crib so they’re alternating facing out both ways. Also alternate how you feed them and carry them. You can also place their favorite toy on the side you think they’re not using and see if they can stretch that side out a little. Might take a month to see improvement. I also YouTubed and found some babies who have strokes will favor one side but their symptoms were SO severe, they would literally look paralyzed on one side, so it’s probably just tightness. You can also ask your pediatrician at your baby’s next visit. I asked my baby’s pediatrician at his 2 month visit and she was not at all concerned. She said both sides were even.
