High risk for OSSH
we’ve been ttc for over a year and started seeing a specialist in October. Our appointments were sooooo far apart because of scheduling/high demand. We finally had our comprehensive follow up with our doctor at Boston IVF and learned both of us are contributing to our challenges - I’m not ovulating regularly and he’s got some morphology issues.
Well, I went into the call ready to demand IVF no matter what. IUI success rates sounded disappointingly low, and we have amazing insurance that will cover IVF and it only cost will be our deductible.
Whelp, apparently I have a TON of follicles. Like, 80. Which puts me at high risk for Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome. Which means the daily injections involved with IVF are far more risky than the oral medication and single injection involved in IUI. So, we’re starting with two rounds of IUI first and if we end up doing IVF we’ll need to freeze for a cycle to let the extra hormones get out of my system. All to avoid OHSS.
I’m so bummed. I mean I really hope that IUI does, and I know IVF isn’t a guarantee, but based on my long 35 day cycles, if IUI doesn’t work we won’t be implanting any embryos until May. 6 months away. Ugh. And I don’t even want to think about what of none of that works?!
Anyone else who has gone through something similar? Or who had experienced OHSS and can really convince me it’s not worth the risk? I’m basically concerned that IUI has such low success rates that I’m just going to end up taking the risk with IVF anyways... thoughts???
Ugh.
