1 year old haircut, how to prepare?

My 1 year old is going to get his haircut next week. Is there anything I should know/do to make the process easier on the hairdresser? I’ve pre-warned them it’s going to be for a 12 month old.

We just did ours about two weeks after first bday. We went to a kids hair place that does many first haircuts so she was very fast and efficient and used to a moving target lol. We brought a special toy he loves that sings and dances and usually holds his attention a bit to play in front of him trying to get him still a little. It was a place where they sit in a chair that’s like a car so he could play with steering wheel. The woman had a toy that vibrates and bounced around she’d drop in the floor of the car to make noise when she needed him to look down. Just find someone skilled in cutting baby hair.

I would pick someone you trust and has experience cutting one year old hair. First haircut can be scary especially if they are using clippers. So someone who can handle a wiggling, screaming one year old would be good.

Not sure it this might help but when my son got his first haircut around a year old he was pretty tired at the time because it was close to his nap time and he sat there super still for the hairdresser because he was about to fall asleep. If you don't want to try going around a time he will be sleepy maybe bring a toy that can distract him.

Maybe get him used to a blow dryer and brushing and you can snip a little piece off to show him it doesn't hurt

My son had his first hair cut shortly before his 2 year birthday.  We talked about it a lot and got excited.  He wanted to cut his hair like his dad’s.  We did it at home.  He loved it.  I know there is a big difference between a one year old and a two year old but both like to be excited and happy.  So just make it exciting.  If you don’t stress about it, then they are more likely to not stress either.  Also, take pictures!
