Iron tablets??

My doctor said I need to take Iron tablets but she didn’t mentioned exactly what brand etc... so what kind do you recommend or you are taking?

Just fyi: I was made aware by a nurse friend that due to new research, many doctors no longer recommend take iron supplements every single day. Your body has a mechanism that slows/prevents iron absorption once it senses you are taking large doses, so if you give it 48 hours break, this defense mechanism shuts off so you can absorb more from the next dose. Studies found you absorb 30% more iron if you take supplements every other day vs. every day, it takes longer to raise iron levels but is more efficient!

I take Thorne Ferrasorb with cofactors. 2 capsules every other day, with extra vitamin C for maximum absorption. As long as I take it with food, I don't notice any discomfort and haven't had constipation.

I just use the nature valley brand. Pretty general. Just make sure you know how much you’re suppose to take. I am on two iron supplements in the morning and my prenatal at night.

Any brand! I take a generic - just needs to be Ferrous Sulfate - my doctor said 350mg tablet once a day in addition to my prenatal! I take them at different times since it can really upset my stomach.

More of a question for you- did you have bloodwork that showed you needed these? I ask because my doctor is running more tests this weekend since mine showed my might iron might be low. He’s running other bloodwork to see if it’s pregnancy or something else. So I’m anxious. Hoping I just need to take more iron!

Just take ferrous sulfate. Mine I had to take in my first two pregnancies was 1 tablet a day that was 325mg. This is my third pregnancy so I expected to be low again but apparently I’m really low this time around and have to take 2 tablets of 325mg per day. Brand is t really important. Just grab the generic one. I get mine from the pharmacy counter and it’s like $1.50 for 100 tablets.
