Breast feeding with a nipple shield

So I’ve been having to use a nipple shield since day 1 (baby is 8 days old today). She had a difficult time wanting to latch and still throws a fit every time I try to feed her without the shield. Will I be able to ever wean her from it? And does anyone have any tricks or tips?
