Have you ever had trouble getting a transvaginal ultrasound?

I am 30 years old, 5w 2d pregnant with my first and have tried to have a transvaginal ultrasound in the past (pre-pregnancy), and JUST COULD NOT HANDLE THE PROBE.
I'm worried I'll have to suck it up and deal with it if I want to hear my baby's heartbeat early on. Any tips on how I can make this an easier process for myself?

That's odd! I'm 30 weeks and never offered one, only normal tummy scans starting 7 weeks. Check to see if you can opt out of it

Is it necessary to have an ultrasound this early? The practice I went to wouldn’t even take you until 10 weeks and everything was abdominal.

I never had a transvaginal scan during my entire pregnancy. You may be able to avoid it.

I've never had any issues, but just tell them to insert it slowly bc you tend to tense up. They'll understand. 
I also heard that wiggling your toes relaxes the pelvic muscles. It's worth a shot!

Just breathe and try to relax as much as you can. The more relaxed you are the less uncomfortable it will be. You can let the tech know your nerves too.

Also, possibly ask if you can insert the probe yourself. One of the techs I had told me to do it myself (I think more for her comfortability), and then once I had it in she took over. I’ve never had an issue with the probe myself, but it would be worth a shot to ask! Best of luck!

I don’t like them. My doctor officers to allow me to place the probe myself but that seems more weird to me. 
I just try to remember it’s all medical and not give to much thought

I’m 22 weeks and never had one, all of mine were abdominal

It hurts me and the best I can say is relax. Let the person who is performing the ultrasound know it hurts and let them use more gel. They can insert it slowly.
