What's the process of getting a breast pump free through insurance?

I see the ads all the time but how do you actually do it? I understand you need a prescription from your OB but do you give it to a breast pump company and they send you one or can you bring the prescription to a store that sells them?

I didn’t need a prescription. I went on Aeroflow.com. They asked for my insurance information and a few hours later sent me an approval email. Then they sent another email And listed all of the breast pumps my insurance covered. I picked one out and they shipped it to me within a month of my due date.

At my hospital, they filled the “prescription” in house. So my ob had just filled it out ahead of time & once baby was born, my husband took it to a certain office & picked up the pump. Your ob will probably tell you whatever you need.

Just call your health insurance and they will let you know their process for getting it done. Mine just had me send in a form with a copy of my receipt and they sent me a check to reimburse me for what I paid for it.

Call them. Mine made it very easy. I just called them and they connected me to the people who handle that and gave me my options. I got to pick from some very nice, expensive brand pumps. Just call your insurance.

I did mine through Target. Emailed the Rx from my doctor and they did an online order to my preferred Target and I picked it up a few days later.

I got a prescription from my OB and she sent it directly to the medical supply store. I picked out my pump and they handled everything else.

The third party brokers are nice because they take care of a lot of the behind the scenes things. 
I have an HMO so I couldn’t actually fulfill through one of them but they actually told me what steps I needed to do to get mine covered my insurance even if I couldn’t go through them (Aeroflow). 
For me I filled out an order form at the OBs office around 28 weeks and they mailed it into the medical supplier that their office uses.

For me I just needed the prescription from my doctor and then I was able to take it next door to the medical supply store and pick out a pump that was covered by my insurance. I think your OB should be able to tell you what to do with it and how to go about getting your pump.
