For those of you who did IVF, is it expensive? Do they offer payment plans?

Insurance rarely covers it but definitely would not if you don’t have a fertility reason for doing it. A reputable doctor will not perform IVF just for sex selection. 
IVF can be $30,000+ depending on what you need, the clinic, where you are, and if you respond to your first round. Knowing the sex of your embryos requires PGS testing which is generally $2,000-$5,000. There are no guarantees that you end up with blastocysts of both sexes. You could end up with 4 blasts, where the 1 female blast is discarded due to its quality. You could end up with all male blasts.

I have two friends who went through ivf. One friend, their insurance covered it completely and they had the option to select the gender but I think they paid extra for that. My other friends, their insurance covered it partially but they still paid around $25,000 and they did not have the option to pick the gender

I’m in south Carolina and we went through ivf over the summer. My insurance covers infertility but with the procedure and meds we still spent around $20,000 out of pocket. The clinic that I went to does not offer payment plans. You have to pay for the procedure before it is performed.
